EYE OF THE STORM

The project started with Dennis Goldsmith’s suggestion to interview or develop short stories on the lives of artists.

The narrative is not solely about their work but rather the reasons behind what inspired them.

We follow artist’s and adventurers. Here are the very people who inspired Tani and continue to create extraordinary pieces of art. The narrative touches on ageism, pandemic, love and loss.

Art Form: Live dance performance with a short film.

JUPITER'S DREAM

Nabil Ali and Tani Gill collaborated to create a short film exploring themes such as conservation and sustainable living.

Funded by Arts Council England this year-long project was in conjunction with the theatre show Jupiter Ghost with many links between the film and the dramatic production.

In the far future, humanity has poisoned and destroyed their home and themselves along with it. Dr Crete searches tirelessly for a way to bring the species back, to give them a second chance.

Test subject nicknamed Jupiter101 is the first adult human to have been created in a laboratory using artificial intelligence.

When she sleeps in her chamber, who knows what she dreams of? Her life or the ghosts of failed experiments before her.

The video contains animated sequences and dance movements by principal dancer Emer Linehan. Directed by Milan Medvec.

The actors’ costumes are dyed from plants grown in the botanical gardens of Cambridge University. Nabil Ali is an award winning resident artist and lecturer at Cambridge University and his work inspired many of the themes that appear in Jupiter’s Ghost.

Nabil was interviewed by the Cambridge university press where he discusses his work and collaboration with Tani in greater depth.
